Peaksur ("we," "us," or "our") operates the Peaksur mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our App. By using Peaksur, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information: Name, email address, username, profile photo, and bio.
- Authentication Data: Apple Sign-In credentials, email/password (encrypted), or Google Sign-In.
- User-Generated Content: Posts, photos, videos, captions, comments, trail reviews, voice notes, stories, and route data.
- Messages: Direct messages and group chat content.
- Phone Number (optional): For "Find Friends" — hashed on-device, never stored in plaintext.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Location Data: Precise GPS location for hike recording, map display, navigation, and nearby trails. Collected in foreground and during active hike recording in background. You can disable location access at any time in device settings.
- Device Information: Device type, OS version, unique identifiers, app version for crash reporting.
- Usage Data: Features used, screens visited, and interaction patterns. We do NOT track you across other apps.
- Contacts (optional): Hashed on-device using SHA-256. Raw contacts are never uploaded, stored, or sold.
1.3 Health & Fitness Data
- Apple HealthKit: With your permission, we read body weight and write hiking workout data (distance, duration, calories, heart rate, steps). We never sell, share, or use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing. HealthKit data stays on your device and in Apple Health — never transmitted to our servers.
1.4 Photos & Camera
- Camera: Access to capture trail photos and videos.
- Photo Library: Access to share photos and auto-match photos to hike timelines. EXIF timestamps are processed locally.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Provide Core Services: Record hikes, display trails, enable navigation, power the social feed.
- Personalize Experience: Show relevant content, suggest friends, recommend trails.
- Enable Social Features: Following, likes, comments, stories, clubs, messaging.
- Process Subscriptions: Manage Premium status and feature access.
- Improve the App: Analyze usage patterns (in aggregate) to fix bugs and develop features.
- Ensure Safety: Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations.
- Communicate: Transactional push notifications. No marketing emails without consent.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal information.
3.1 Public Content
Posts, photos, hike recordings, stories, and profile information you make public are visible to all Peaksur users.

3.3 Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
3.4 Business Transfers
In a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may be transferred. You will be notified before your data becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
4. Data Storage & Security
- Storage: Account data stored on Firebase (Google Cloud) and Supabase servers in the United States.
- Security: TLS/SSL encryption in transit, encryption at rest. Passwords never stored in plaintext.
- Retention: Data retained while your account is active. Deleted or anonymized within 30 days of account deletion.
5. Your Rights & Choices
- Access & Portability: Request a copy of your data at [email protected].
- Correction: Update profile info anytime in Edit Profile.
- Deletion: Delete your account in Settings. Irreversible. Cancel Apple subscriptions separately.
- Opt-Out: Disable Location, Contacts, Camera, Photos, HealthKit, or Notifications in iOS Settings.
5.5 California Residents (CCPA)
You have the right to know, request deletion, opt out of sale (we don't sell data), and non-discrimination.
5.6 European Residents (GDPR)
Additional rights including access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, and complaint to a supervisory authority. Legal bases: consent, contract performance, legitimate interests.
6. Children's Privacy
Peaksur is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. Contact [email protected] if you believe a child is using the App.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy. Material changes will be notified through the App and by updating the "Last Updated" date.
